COVID isn't over

Well, it happened again a year later. My husband (who is on dialysis and immune suppressants for another condition) and I took a trip to Atlanta to attend the annual convention for the National Association of Black and White Men Together (NABWMT). It’s something we’ve done since 1999 when it was held in Philadelphia. Last year we both got sick a day after coming back from the NABWMT convention held in Minneapolis (during the omicron COVID wave). I recovered from what felt like a bad cold within a week, but he wound up in the hospital for 10 days with what turned into pneumonia. Not fun, but he recovered. We were and are both fully vaccinated.

This time we did our best to wear masks in enclosed situations, except when we were in event venues, but I guess not enough to prevent infection for him. The difference between being immune-suppressed or not is showing up clearly in our situation. We don’t want to travel and have to wear a mask all the time, but it looks like that may be necessary for the duration, as hubby will be on immune suppressants for the rest of his life if he gets a kidney transplant.

Sigh.
