I have felt terrified to varying degrees since the election on November 8. The trauma is partly the result of growing up gay in the late 60s and early 70s, and a PTSD type reaction to the ascendancy of the right wing. Over the last couple of decades, I’d started to feel safer as we have made progress in granting what should have been ours to begin with: civil rights. This has been in spite of huge amounts of obstruction from conservatives, mostly Republicans, of course. My feeling of safety has been shattered, first with the 2016 campaign and then what had seemed to be unlikely election of Mr. Trumpf. I’ve decided I need to do *something* to respond to the situation in which I, and all of us, are finding ourselves.
So I've started posting a daily series of Nazi quotes on both Facebook and Twitter. The first one is from Joseph Goebbels:
There was no point in seeking to convert the intellectuals. For intellectuals would never be converted and would anyway always yield to the **er, and this will always be "the man in the street." Arguments must therefore be crude, clear and forcible, and appeal to emotions and instincts, not the intellect. Truth was unimportant and entirely subordinate to tactics and psychology.
Not sure what **er is supposed to be, so I cropped out that part to make it work. Not sure it'll be effective, but at least I will feel better.
